About Us

Fuel Cells are widely recognised as an emerging technology to power a range of equipment from cars and buses to laptops and mobile phones. Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells is at the leading edge of fuel cell component development.

Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells is a global business using its core skills in catalysis and precious metals to produce the HiSPECĀ® range of membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) and fuel cell catalysts.

The business has the world’s largest manufacturing facility in Swindon, UK for the production of MEAs for hydrogen and methanol fuelled systems. This purpose built facility uses state of the art, high volume, flexible manufacturing methods and includes a rapid prototyping capability for customers requiring pre commercial volumes.

Advanced quality control systems are used at all scales of production to ensure compliance with the most demanding standards of the automotive and electronics industries.

The Swindon facility has been built with the future in mind. The space, infrastructure and planning consents for rapid expansion are already in place.

HiSPEC MEAs and catalysts are available to suit the performance requirements of all major applications.
